Dr. John Adams

John joined the staff June 1, 2015 after being a member for the previous three years. He has served as a bivocational pastor, a fulltime pastor, an interim pastor and associate pastor at churches in Missouri, Iowa, Tennessee, West Virginia and Florida prior to joining the Sweetwater team. A native of Southwest Missouri, John graduated from Missouri State in Springfield with a B.S in Business and with both the M.Div. and DMin. degrees from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City. His doctoral and masters work majored on ministry to families. His doctoral research and project focused on equipping the congregation to lead worship in home settings and to better experience worship in the corporate setting.

After completing his doctorate, John joined the Iowa Baptist Fellowship as a state missionary and spent the next 8.5 years equipping church leaders and pastors to build growing churches. He then joined the pastoral ministry training section at LifeWay Christians Resources and traveled nationally training pastors and laity in church growth concepts and the best practices for church administration. Following his service at LifeWay, John served 12 years as a state missionary in West Virginia serving the churches and associations there in various capacities of administration, communication, and leadership development.

John’s compelling dream is that the Body of Christ will adopt the person of Jesus Christ as The Pattern for how to relate to the will of God, to each other, and to the world. He believes the admonition in Matthew 6:33 that a key centering point for all church planning and individual discipleship should be to “seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.”
